Can my existing store stay live during a Shopify migration?

Inficial Shopify FAQShopify Migration

Usually, yes. The existing store can continue trading while the new Shopify store, data process, integrations, and redirects are built and rehearsed. Near launch, the team defines a content or data freeze, final delta import, DNS and domain changes, test transactions, operational handover, and rollback criteria. Some temporary limitations may be needed to keep the two systems consistent.

How Inficial approaches it

Separate build time from the final cutover window

The goal is not zero change at any cost. It is a controlled window where orders, customers, inventory, content, and fulfilment cannot silently diverge. The cutover plan should name the owner and expected duration of every dependency.

Cutover controls

  • Final source export and delta strategy
  • Order and inventory handling during the transition
  • Domain, DNS, redirects, and certificate checks
  • Payments, tax, shipping, email, and analytics tests
  • Go or no-go criteria, escalation, monitoring, and rollback
