Existing Wix passwords cannot be imported through Shopify’s standard customer CSV. Move the customer records and decide the Shopify sign-in experience separately. Shopify customer accounts support passwordless email codes; a legacy password-based setup needs its own activation or reset plan. Customers do not always need to create a new password.
Plan the customer’s first sign-in, not a password export
Importing a contact and providing a working account are different tasks. Check the email address, customer identity, consent, and links to any migrated orders. Duplicate contacts or shared email addresses can create confusing histories even when the import finishes successfully. Resolve those cases before sending customers a sign-in announcement.
Write instructions for the account experience you actually enable. For passwordless accounts, explain how customers receive their sign-in code. For a legacy account flow, test the applicable invitation or reset process. Rehearse a returning customer’s journey from the email or old account link through sign-in to an order, and give support a clear way to resolve missing-history enquiries.
What to check before deciding
- Confirm the account model before preparing customer messages.
- Test a returning customer, a new customer, and a duplicate-email case.
- Check order visibility and address data after sign-in.
- Keep marketing consent separate from the ability to access an account.
