Wix combines website building and commerce tools, while Shopify is centered on commerce operations and extensibility. Shopify may fit teams needing deeper catalog, merchandising, checkout, market, app, integration, or operational capability. Wix may remain suitable when website flexibility and simpler selling needs dominate. Compare requirements and total cost rather than brand popularity.

A growing store may move when catalog, merchandising, markets, integrations, checkout, reporting, or day-to-day commerce workflows exceed the current Wix setup. A migration is justified only when Shopify resolves named constraints and the expected benefit exceeds implementation, app, retraining, and operating costs.

Products, customers, selected historical orders, reviews, pages, media, and other content can often move using Shopify’s migration app, CSV files, third-party tools, manual work, or APIs where available. Field availability and source quality determine the final scope, so imported data must be checked rather than assumed complete.

Existing customer passwords normally cannot move because they are encrypted. Customer records can be imported, but customers generally need to activate their Shopify account or set a new password. Plan the account model, communication, testing, and support before launch.

The new store can preserve brand elements, content, and recognizable journeys, but Wix layouts do not transfer as a Shopify theme. Rebuild the design as responsive Shopify sections and templates, improving hierarchy, accessibility, performance, editing controls, and commerce behavior where useful.

Each dependency needs a requirement-led review. Native Shopify features, apps, Flow, integrations, custom extensions, or external tools may replace the Wix behavior. Form fields, consent, notifications, destinations, failure handling, data retention, and operational owners should be tested explicitly.

The existing domain can usually be connected or transferred to Shopify. Search continuity also requires mapping old Wix URLs to Shopify destinations, creating redirects, preserving useful content and metadata, updating internal links, validating analytics and Search Console, and monitoring crawl and indexation after launch.

Timing depends on products, customers, orders, content, design scope, Wix apps, forms, markets, integrations, data quality, and approvals. A smaller store can move faster than a content-heavy or operationally complex business, but the plan should still include import validation, testing, cutover, and post-launch monitoring.
